Working to Eliminate Childhood Poverty in Fort Bend County Texas

(2024-2025 TEA data - 53,231 Economically Disadvantaged Students

The LIFE All-Stars is a unique 501(c)(3) organization that recruits PreK-5th graders who are residents of Fort Bend County, Texas and are eligible for the Federal free/reduced-price lunch program.  The LIFE All-Stars Program provides 6 age-appropriate financial literacy lessons per year (3 in the Spring Semester and 3 in the Fall Semester).  By participating in the program, the children are eligible for attendance credits, refer-a-friend and other incentives that can add up to $500/year/child, which are uniformly invested in the Vanguard VOO ETF (S&P 500 Index fund).

Each year that a child participates and attends at least 3 youth financial literacy lessons, the credits are deposited to a LIFE All-Stars brokerage account.  Once the child turns 18 years old, the LIFE All-Stars gifts the accumulated funds from the account to the participant to use for their welfare or to grow further in their own brokerage account (~$7K-$14K).

The LIFE All-Stars lessons are based on the FDIC Money Smart Curriculum, and teaches key topics like Wants vs. Needs, Budgeting, Setting Goals, What is Currency, All About Banking, Retirement Accounts and others!

Our Story

Brad Wood is a 25+ year resident of Fort Bend County, Texas, and moved to the Houston area after completing his PhD in Structural Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin.  He grew up in a large family in New Jersey, and learned from experience how hard it is to succeed in life!  After working for ExxonMobil for 26+ years, he elected to retire and focus on giving back to his community.  In 2023, he founded the The LIFE All-Stars to eliminate child poverty in Fort Bend County.  Brad recruited a dedicated group of individuals to join/form the Board of Directors for the Life All-Stars, and each are residents of our community.
